What is INTENT TO FILE for VA Disability | Applying for VA Disability
If you plan to file a benefits claim with the Veterans, submitting Form 21-0966 – Intent to File – could add as much as 12 months to your benefits. How does this work?
If your claim is approved, the effective date of your VA benefits begins with the date you file your completed application with all required documentation.
However, suppose you still are in the process of gathering documentation. In that case, filing Form 21-0966 – Intent to File, gives you up to 12 months to gather any missing information and file the completed claim, and the effective date of future benefits – assuming your claim is approved – will be the date you filed your Form 21-0966.
