DVEN and Rally4Vets CEO Robert Hess in Winslow Arizona with his C6 Corvette on the inaugural Rally4Vets 1k adventure rally - 1,000 miles in 24 hours.

The Rally4Vets Completes Its First 1k Adventure Rally

by DVEN CEO Robert Hess

Life is a Journey

It’s said that life is all about the journey, not the destination, and my recent journey was one for the record books! Climbing into my C6 Corvette, my route took me from the  Corvette National Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Amarillo, Texas—a whopping 1,036 miles—in just 15 hours and 10 minutes.

The Thousand Mile Rally Departs the National Corvette Museum

Departing at the crack of dawn on October 16 at 7:15 a.m., the rhythmic hum of the Corvette’s engine was almost my sole companion until he finally cruised into Amarillo, Texas at 12:17 a.m. the following day. Talk about burning rubber!  I say “almost” because I spent those 15 hours getting a basic education on Generative AI.  And what a dose of information!

This wasn’t just a spontaneous joyride. This drive marks the inaugural Rally4Vets 1k adventure rally. The challenge? Complete 1,000 miles within a mere 24 hours. Those who conquer this challenge can proudly don a Rally4Vets 1k “Solo” t-shirt, and if you’re game enough to share the wheel, a “Team” version awaits. The whole idea was inspired by the iconic Italian Mille Miglia race, blending the charm of the old world with modern American muscle.

The Rally4Vets 1k Mission

But, these 1k drives have a mission: drawing attention to veteran emotional challenges and highlighting American Legion and Veterans Administration resources to help veterans and their families connect with people and organizations that can help.

Why was I in Bowling Green in the first place?  We used the C6 at our 3rd annual Top Dog Championships at Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia and then at the  SCCA National Time Trial event at the NCM racetrack and we needed to get the car back to California for participation in the Inaugural MCON in Las Vegas,.  It was less expensive to drive back than to ship the car so, the Inaugural Rally4Vets 1k was born!

We’ll be doing our second 1k in 2024 but over a much more intriguing route.  If the allure of the open road and the growl of a powerful engine calls to you, join us.  Find out more at Rally4Vets.com. And guess what? It’s all for a noble cause! These rallies are part of DVEN’s veteran suicide prevention campaign.  So, why not add purpose to passion and drive with us?

Oh, and did I mention my quick pit stop at the iconic “Corner” in Winslow, Arizona, along the historic Route 66?  Because what’s an American road trip without a nod to this legendary highway?

Open roads, a dose of nostalgia, and a noble cause: our Rally4Vets adventure rallies harken back to Italy’s Mille Miglia races held between 1927 and 1957.
