Are Cheap Bikes Good for Fitness?

I have just 12 minutes to write this post, so here goes. . .

If you have read the fitness section of this website, you know we are big on bicycling for physical and mental health.

You may have started searching for your ideal bicycle, perhaps with the idea of competing on the amateur level in the future.  [Bike racing is really fun and you meet great people].

If yes, you may have been shocked at the cost of new, tricked-out bicycles: upwards of $10,000.00.  You can buy a car for that price. Right!

One solution is to purchase a used bike, either from your local bicycle shop that may have some on consignment or on eBay.  Just like everything, bicycle technology improves and gets more sophisticated (and costly) every year.  But keep in mind that the people were climbing the Alpe d’Hueze in France on bicycles even before the modern derailleur was invented!

The guys at Global Cycling Network took on the challenge of competing in a local race with inexpensive bikes.  Check out the video below and see how they did on their budget bikes.

Then, check out our page on how to get started cycling.  And don’t forget to join us on Strava – Vets Riding for Vets.
