I launched from my home American Legion Post (291 in Newport Harbor) and drove to Modesto, CA, with a stop to meet the lovely ladies at the American Legion California District Headquarters in Sanger, California.
The headquarters is under renovation, so the ladies are working from a construction trailer, but they were all smiles and full of energy.
The entire drive was overcast due to smoke from the Park Fire near Chico.
Coming from Los Angeles, I was reminded of the extent and importance of agriculture in California and how our individual perspectives are driven by where we live.
For me, long-distance drives are a wonderful meditation time. Just the soft roar of the engine, the sound of the tires on the road, and the passing landscapes.
Tomorrow I head to Eureka. My choices are the 5 Freeway and then cut over or take the 101 through San Francisco. I love the City, so I think it will be the 101.
Allez!
