Donate Your Car, Boat, or RV to Help Veterans Heal From PTSD
Your old vehicle can do more than sit in a driveway—it can help a veteran rebuild a life.
DVEN’s vehicle donation program turns cars, trucks, boats, and RVs into funding for veteran support—especially mental health and PTSD-related programs—and helps us expand access to life-changing service dogs and community-based support.
Donate in all 50 states. We’ll coordinate pickup and handle the paperwork.

Why your donation matters for veterans right now
- Veterans are a major part of America’s story. In 2024, there were 15.8 million veterans in the United States.
- Service-connected disabilities are rising. The share of U.S. veterans with service-connected disabilities increased to about 30% (2024).
- Too many veterans still struggle financially. An estimated 7.6% of veterans reported incomes below the poverty level in 2023 (about 1.2 million people).
- Veteran suicide remains a national tragedy. VA’s 2024 annual report shows an average of 17.6 veteran suicides per day (2022 data).
This is why we do what we do: reduce isolation, support recovery, and keep veterans here for the next chapter.
What your vehicle donation supports
When you donate to DVEN, proceeds help fuel programs that improve veteran quality of life, including:
- PTSD awareness and veteran mental wellness support
- Service dog funding and veteran assistance
- Community-building programs that reduce isolation

What you can donate
We accept many types of non-cash donations, including:
- Cars, trucks, SUVs, vans
- Motorcycles
- RVs and trailers
- Boats (and in some cases, other recreational vehicles)
Running or not: Many donors give vehicles they no longer want to sell, fix, or store.
Our “repair-and-resell” approach
Many vehicle donation programs sell vehicles “as-is.” DVEN’s program is different: depending on the vehicle’s condition, we may invest time and repairs to improve value, helping generate more dollars for veteran programs and, in some cases, increasing the documented value of your gift.
Important tax note: Under IRS rules, your deductible amount often depends on whether the charity sells the vehicle “as-is” versus uses it significantly or materially improves it. Your written acknowledgment (often Form 1098-C) will document the relevant details.
Proof it works: the Miata and Woody
The 1997 Mazda Miata at right (252,211 miles!) was donated to DVEN, repaired, wrapped in DVEN/Rally4Vets livery, and put back into the community, helping us tell the disabled veteran story and expand awareness of veteran issues.
And then there’s Woody, our service dog that graduated training (April 2025), pictured with his veteran Susan, who served two combat tours in Afghanistan and lives with PTSD. That’s the “why” behind every donation.
Vehicle donation tax deduction basics
- Vehicle donations with a claimed value over $500 generally require a proper written acknowledgment and Form 1098-C, which must be attached to the tax return to claim the deduction. Our team provides this document.
- When the charity sells the vehicle without significant intervening use or material improvement, the deduction is limited to the gross proceeds from the sale (as documented).
(Always consult your tax professional for advice specific to your situation.)
FAQ
Is my vehicle donation tax-deductible?
- Often, yes—if you itemize deductions and meet IRS requirements. Documentation rules commonly involve Form 1098-C.
Do you pick up vehicles in my state?
- Yes—we accept donations in all 50 states and coordinate pickup and processing details with you.
Why donate instead of selling it myself?
- You avoid the time, hassle, and uncertainty of a private sale, and your vehicle becomes a direct support for veteran programs.
