DVEN GT40 in Grid at Thermal Club

Ford vs. Ferrari

Starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale.  What a great movie about the origin of one of the most iconic sports cars ever made.

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to slide into a GT40, crank the Ford 289, and accelerate out of the grid and onto the track with that 8 cylinder engine growling, just 14 inches behind your head?  I have!

In 2016 our charity received a donated Ford GT40 replica car to support our charity programs.  For the past four years Just Driven in Orange, California, worked on restoring the car.  The car went on display at South Bay Ford the week before the debut of Ford vs. Ferrari in November of 2019 and remained there for almost 18 months.  Several thousand people had their picture taken with the car and now it’s time to take the next step and let people enjoy a GT40 driving experience.

We put the car into the shop three weeks ago to prepare it for the track.  I’ll test drive it on November 11th – Veterans Day – and if everything checks out, VIN 28391 will make its track debut on November 16th as part of a Pirelli P Zero Experience program at the famed Thermal Club in Thermal, California.

Once the car passes muster, donors will be able to drive the car for ‘experiential laps’ to get a feel for what it was like racing the car in 1967.   By “experiential” we mean low-speed driving – up to approximately 70 mph – behind our DVEN pace car.  This is a lot slower than 200 mph down the Mulsanne Straight but we guarantee the experience will be thrilling.

If you or someone you know would enjoy supporting DVEN and the disabled veteran community by driving the car, please join the information list below the pictures of the actual car and we will keep you posted on dates and locations.
